Why dancers leave — and the retention habits that keep them
Most dancers do not leave in a dramatic moment. They miss a week, then another, then the term rolls over and nobody re-enrols. Retention is largely about noticing early.
The three common exits
- Cost — a termly bill arrives at the wrong moment with no plan option
- Drift — two or three missed weeks with no contact from the school
- Fit — the class outgrew the dancer, or the dancer outgrew the class
Spot drift with attendance, not instinct
A dancer with two consecutive absences is worth a friendly message. A dancer with three is usually already halfway out. This is only visible if registers are digital and someone reviews them weekly.
Make re-enrolment the default
Open next term's places to current families before the public, confirm in one tap, and send a reminder before the deadline. Every extra form is a place lost.
Give parents something to see
Parents rarely watch classes. A short end-of-term note on progress, a showcase clip or a photo in the portal turns an invisible expense into a visible one — and visible value renews.
